History of Kate’s Korner Kupboard[span8]
HOW OUR LOVE FOR CREATING MADE ITS WAY INTO YOUR HOME AND HEART
The road to Kate’s Korner Kupboard has been a long one that all started with one love for hand made gifts, quilts, placemats and collectibles. We are excited to bring our extensive selection of hand made gifts, home décor and sought after collectibles to our friends and family in Kalamazoo, MI and beyond. Here is our story:[/span8] [span6]
Owner, Jane Dyer has been a seamstress all her life and had always wanted to open a store. In 1989, after her youngest two finally reached junior high, Jane had a booth at the Portage Antique & Craft Barn on Centre Street. In 1992 her small booth grew, when Jane’s daughter purchased Bert’s Bakery in the same location it is today. Jane placed her products in the front room and started purchasing other treasures as Jane’s gift store began to grow. Her daughter’s customers became her customers.
The Big Expansion
1998 was the year of the big expansion! Jane and her husband put an addition on the back of the building and placed her daughter’s work area there. Then they opened up the main room and expanded the gifts and collectibles. The 1,900-square-foot space was perfect for the gift and bakery combination so many people loved.
